Copywrite – The High Exhaulted [2LP]

Originally released in 2002 The HighExhaulted marked the arrival of ColumbusOhios Copywrite as one of indie rapssharpest punchline specialists. Now broughtback to wax through Coalmine Reissues thealbum captures a raw snapshot of a battlehardenedlyricist pairing razor-edged barswith timeless production newly remasteredfor its most powerful presentation to date.Backed by beats from the late Camu TaoMighty Mi and most notably RJD2 Copywriteunloads his arsenal with surgical precision.Early highlights like Fucksoundcheck andHolier Than Thou flex his wit and brashdelivery while Tower of Babble (featuringunderground stalwarts Smut Peddlers) findshim trading dense rhyme schemes with a crewequally committed to verbal demolition.Yet its on the album closer June producedby RJD2 where the project cuts deepest.Departing from the barbed-wire bravadoCopywrite offers a candid and poignantmeditation that showcases his depth as asongwriter. With its introspection andemotional weight June stands as a timelesscounterpoint to the albums otherwise relentless barrage andcritics have long cited it as the projects most enduring moment.Nearly a quarter century later The High Exhaulted remains adefinitive underground release brash witty anduncompromising yet not without flashes of vulnerability. Inrevisiting this classic Coalmine Reissues cements its mission ofpreserving the gems of hip-hops past for a new generation oflisteners.Side A:A1. SintroA2. FucksoundcheckA3. Fire It UpA4.
